When researching:

  1. Know what you're looking at: Is it an eBook? An article from a database? A book review?
  2. E-mail good citations and articles to yourself
  3. Take good notes and keep things in one place
  4. Print out web pages that you plan to use as sources for your assignment

1. Know what you're looking at

When you search the library catalog, the list of results tells you what each source is. Look right above the title!

2. Email citations or full-text articles to yourself:

Almost all of our databases allow you to email the articles you find to yourself.

3. Take good notes and keep things in one place

As an EVC student, you have access to the Microsoft One Note. Go into Self Service and find your MS apps. One Note is a great place to take notes and organize your sources.

4. Print out web pages that you plan to use as sources for your assignment

Be sure the webpages include the URL. You can also download the website as a pdf and add it to your OneNote folders.

True Tales of Research Nightmares:

Why download the webpage? Can't I just use a link?

"For my final assignment — which was a huge part of my grade — I had to deconstruct a web site. After I turned in my assignment, I went back to the web site that I based my entire final on — it had been completely redesigned! I did all the work without saving or printing out any pages of the site. It was a total nightmare!"
