Art 55: Citing Images / Activity #3

Citing Images

CITING SOURCES –– Give credit to all the sources you use to write your essays and papers through citation. Check out Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab (OWL) for media and image citation (among other common sources.)

Image Citation format from an online Website:

Artist’s Last name, First name. Title of the Image. Date created. Title of the Museum Collection or Website, Date Published, URL

Example of an image from a website:

Stieglitz, Alfred. Hands of Georgia O’Keeffe at 291. June 1917. The J. Paul Getty Museum Collection, www.getty.edu/art/collection/

When you are citing an image reproduced in a book, it is usually sufficient to refer to it in your text and create a works-cited-list entry for the book as whole.
