Not all sources on the internet are appropriate for a college research paper. Consider...

  • Who is the author?
  • Why was it written -- for what purpose, organization, or audience?
  • When was it written?
  • Does it include references or a works cited list?

If you cannot determine the credibility of the information you are using from a website, it's best not to use it to factually support your argument. Using biased or inaccurate information in your paper can negatively impact your grade.

Google News

You can use Google News to search for news article on the internet. When reading news online, be sure to evaluate the piece for credibility as not all news sources are reliable. Here are some ways to identify fake news on the internet:

Searching Google Scholar

Google Scholar is a free search engine that you can use to find scholarly academic journal articles online. Be aware that not all articles are available for free, but sometimes they are!

How to search Google Scholar:
